Letting the Word Work: A Daily Surrender to God’s Voice
Today I came to a hard stop in 1 Thessalonians 2, especially verse 13:
“And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.”
— 1 Thessalonians 2:13
This verse hit me deeply. It reminded me that receiving the Word of God is a choice—a decision to let it work in me. And Satan knows this too. He’s always tempting me to turn away from that work, to dismiss it, to delay it.
The Work God Desires
God desires a work in me that is rooted in His Word. But for that to happen, I must invest time in it. I must soak in it regularly and intentionally. I need to look for how and where His Word is working in me—and then respond with a wholehearted “Yes.” Yes, I will follow. Yes, I will allow that way. Because I know He has a purpose for my good in His way.
The Subtle Resistance
This may be one of the hardest lessons for me. I know in my heart that I often argue with myself—telling myself that some choices are minor or inconsequential. But that’s just a way of getting my way instead of steering my life toward God’s work. Even the small decisions matter. They shape the direction of my heart. They either open me to the Spirit’s work or close me off to it.
A Prayer for Alignment
Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank You for this Word today.
I pray for the work You desire in me through Your Word.
May it be empowered by the presence of Your Spirit in me.
Help me turn away from my way and walk in Your way today.
Let Your Word work in me—fully, freely, and faithfully.
