Morning Dew or Radiant Glory: Seeking Lasting Impact with the Lord
Our relationship with the Lord often mirrors the spiritual condition of the people addressed in the Book of Hosea. In Hosea 6:4, God says:
“Your love is like the morning mist, like the early dew that disappears.”
We may begin our day with a quiet time—praying, reading Scripture, and even sensing the Lord speaking to us. But as the day unfolds, the impact of that time fades. Like dew evaporating in the morning sun, our spiritual sensitivity dissipates. The truths we heard, the convictions we felt, and the presence we experienced lose their grip on our hearts.
We may still attend church, join Bible studies, and avoid visible sin. But inwardly, we remain unchanged. The presence of the Lord has no lasting effect on our lives. The “dew” of the morning burns off, and we return to living as we always have.
The Contrast: Moses Radiated God’s Glory
When Moses spent time with the Lord, something radically different happened:
Exodus 34:29:
“When Moses came down from Mount Sinai… he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord.”
Moses’ time with God left a visible mark. His face radiated the glory of the Lord. That’s the kind of transformation we’re invited into—where our lives reflect His character, grace, and truth to those around us. If we’re not earnestly seeking Him—kneading His ways and purposes into our lives—then our time with Him will have no lasting impact. We’ll become like the people in Hosea: religious in practice, but unchanged in heart.
God Desires Relationship, Not Ritual
God’s longing is not for empty sacrifice, but for hearts that know and love Him:
Hosea 6:6:
“For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.”
David understood this yearning. His cry in Psalm 63:1 reveals the kind of earnestness we need:
“O God, You are my God; early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.”
This is the kind of hunger that transforms us. It’s not about checking off a devotional box—it’s about desperately seeking His Word to nourish, impact, and change us for our good.
A Prayer for Lasting Impact
Dear Lord,
I confess—I am just like the people You addressed in Hosea.
Forgive me for letting my time with You fade like morning dew.
Change me. Make me like Moses, whose time with You left a lasting mark.
Make me like David, whose heart burned with earnest desire for You.
Let my mornings with You become moments of transformation.
May Your Word shape me, Your Spirit guide me, and Your presence radiate through me.
Amen.
