Surprised by God—Again

Today I am truly blown away by how God surprised me once again, gently and powerfully reminding me that He is deeply involved when we sincerely pursue knowing Him—His heart and His ways.

Yesterday, during my time alone with the Lord, I journaled about the importance of the root system in our lives—the spiritual foundation beneath the surface—and how the right kind of fruit blossoms from that hidden strength.

Then today, as I was simply considering where in the Word to turn, I “just happened” to open to the Book of Psalms. And wouldn’t you know—it was as if the Lord Himself wanted to take me deeper into this very topic of my life’s root system. I “just happened” to land in Psalm 1:

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.”

And then—get this—I “just happened” to notice the study notes in the very Bible I picked up. They spoke directly to what I’d journaled the day before:

“Like a tree, the godly person is alive, beautiful, fruitful, useful, and enduring. The most important part of a tree is the hidden root system that draws up nourishment—and the most important part of the believer’s life is that spiritual root system that draws from the hidden resources we have in Christ…”

That confirmation wrecked me—in the best way.

A Heartfelt Prayer

Dear Lord, You have overwhelmed me again. Thank You for so clearly showing me Your heart—how deeply You desire that I not just spend time with You, but truly invest and abide with You. I now understand that the two are different. Investing deepens the fruit of my life. It weaves delight into my spirit—delight in Your Word.

May Your Spirit continually bring this truth to the surface in me. When I need reminding, remind me. Teach me to root myself more deeply in You, so that the fruit that grows isn’t just for me—but nourishes others too.
